AK EnergySmart Lessons (Grades 9-12)

Energy Efficiency and Alaska Native Dwellings

Students will research how traditional Alaska Native dwellings were built, and how their designs minimized heat transfer to keep the occupants warm. Each student will build a model dwelling and use the model to explain how the design efficiently used the energy available.

Alaska Energy Resource Map

Through web and literature research, students will familiarize themselves with Alaska’s energy resources within six Alaska regions and write a paragraph on each, discussing which resources are currently used, which could potentially be used, and the challenges associated with each.
